I knew someone was going to be calling for the victims of Hurricane Katrina to be paid massive amounts of money, just as were the families of the victims of 9/11. And just who was it that stepped forward to demand the victims compensation fund? None other than the NAACP. Yup, NAACP president Bruce Gordon is saying that a compensation fund for the Katrina victims should be the first order of congress. By the way, the NAACP didn't call for a victim's compensation fund after any of the four hurricanes that devastated Florida last year. Draw your own conclusions.

Bruce S. Gordon, president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), today urged Congress to establish a Hurricane Katrina Compensation Fund similar to one that was created for victims of the September 11 terrorist attack.

It's the national We-Be-Victims industry once again trying to get more out of the national conscience tax-payers dole. And on top of this new program they continue to demand restitution for imagined sins.

#### that...

...send each one of them a BILL for being rescued.

They were WARNED

They chose to stay.

Just heard from the most liberal person I know. She has been living in Zambia, ZAMBIA, the last few years and is appalled at the sympathy for these people. At the end of the day, they still live in the US, not some third world country. Can't afford a bus ride in Zambia?

Last time I checked, black people were not the only people who lost everything. Does this mean the NAACP is also going to help the white people also?

They call me ... Sarcasmo
Some of the displaced are getting trips to Vegas or Atlanta PLUS a little spending money. I don't recall that happening for any other disaster.

...to compare what you have to say vs. the opinion of someone who LIVES in a 4th world country filled with real poor people far more capable and living much fuller lives than the crippled losers (aka 'victims') in NO.

This should be fun.

Hurricane victims shouldn't have some fund set up to set them up following this event -- that's what INSURANCE is for! And it IS different than 9-11 for one very critical reason. 9-11 can be seen as an event brought on by our own government's doing (or lack thereof, depending which side of the fence you sit on). I'm not saying that it WAS our government's fault we were bombed by our own airliners. But the motives/reasons behind it were political in nature and thereby something relating to our government. The hurricane was not -- that was Mother Nature's doing; therefore, tell the NAACP to send their request for funds to her if they want to see a fund set up.

The fact is citizens who fund the agencies who ARE providing a response and have donated to the Red Cross and the like to provide assistance is "fund" enough, in my opinion. They didn't have to do that! Some give money, some are giving their time, some are offering up their homes to house homeless/displaced N.O. residents.

The fact remains, however heartless as it sounds, is that these people chose to live in a coastal area that was BELOW sea level. There isn't a big enough "DUH" sign you can slap on that fact! And before anyone starts with that "they didn't have any choice" :blahblah: ... they're legs are carrying them OUT of the city now ... so they could've carried 'em out of there before the hurricane, as well.

No way..

It isn't like New Orleans residents weren't FOREWARNED in advance. The victims of 9/11 had zero warning. It isn't like they woke up that morning and said "You know what I am going to go into work, and hope a plane hits my building so I can die". Give me an effing break.

Also what about future hurricanes that may destroy cities? Are they going to pay out everytime a hurricane hits a city?

"Hurricane Victims Compensation Fund"

... is just another name for the NAACP's push for reparations.

...nice try and I see your point BUT that is exactly what we are being fed; that the disaster, at least the relief effort, specifically the suppossed lack thereof IS political, IE, George W. Bush does NOT care about black people.

Ergo, Bush and his dislike of blacks and their suffering, like a terrorist attack, is the fault of our government. There is no way in hell anyone from Nanny State Inc. is gonna take a position other than it is the givernments (spelling intentional to see if it sticks) fault. That would mean that these folks MIGHT have had something to do with their situation...

Living 10 feet below sea level.
Not leaving when warned.

That kind of inconveneint thing.

There wouldn't be any "relief effort" had the fools gotten the hell out when they were told to ... it'd simply be a "clean up effort" and a "rebuilding effort". But ... alas ... some people thought they'd "ride it out" and IMO, when they made that decision, they inherently accepted the risks associated with that ... which includes watching first-hand as your home is filling with water, possibly being stuck without any aid for days, even weeks, and death. :ohwell:

And just to clarify, I mean search/rescue in place of relief effort. Clearly, there needs to be some sort of relief/care provided to the people when they/were evacuated.

And how much of your tax money would you like to wager that Congress caves in and gives them the funding?
If they do, we'll be blessed with a new house/senate next term! :really:

Hurricanes occur with a frequency that makes this idea assanine!
