I know it's an asterisk. For the techie types, do you call it something else?

In my Commodore 64 days I called it a star. To load a program from disk the syntax was LOAD"program_name",8. To load the first program you can can use *. LOAD"*",8 There was a C64 magazine called "Load Star".

In Oracle, SQL Server and a few others it is Select * from database table name... Total drain on database because it brings all the fields back in that table.

I've always heard it referred to as a SPLAT. I thought it was universally understood but I was wrong.
