I'm a gonna go with the 80/20 rule. 80% of politicians couldn't care less about the people. 20% do, and try to counter the 80%.

The percentage that go into politics with the idea of making a difference are far outnumbered and silenced by those who have personal agendas to include getting rich and force the ideas they have convinced themselves are the correct ones.

I think 80-20 is about right.
Many politicians are lawyers . Lousy Lawyers who go into politics because they couldn't make it practicing law, or lazy lawyers who want a free staff to do all their work for them while they show up once in a while to collect the goodies from lobbyists. Only a fool would trust any politician. That goes for Lawyers and lately it is a good thing to remember about Doctors.

One other thing I might mention. The 20% who do care, only care for the first 10 years. Any who stay longer than that are only out to help themselves.

I do think there are people who go into politics because they genuinely want to make a difference. They either quit, slowly become corrupted or apathetic or they just get beaten by a system that favors playing dirty. I think there are just as many who think they will do good but they really have no idea how to do anything. They lack courage, diplomatic skills or vision.

And there are the rest. Like I observed, in a career that favors fighting dirty, that’s what you’ll get.
