What does RC Nitro scene look like in Calvert?

Hello all,

New to Calvert county, and I'm wondering what the RC nitro car/plane scene is like. I haven't done much with flying in a while, but I'm still active with my nitro cars (10th and 8th scale onroad & off). I used to race at the now defunct 301-raceway in brandywine. Any guys meet up for onroad racing (10th & 8th scale)?

Thanks.

RJ,

There is a track in Hughesville Md...not sure what it is called..but i think it is offroad only.....not many R/C car/truck tracks around in SoMd...i just bash local at schools or in parks...plenty of parks around to run in with big parking lots. I fly at my planes and helicopters at local places and schools...there is a AMA field down here in Hollywood Md... Patuxent Aeromodelers - nice field....decent membership...i fly at schools or the parks around or at a friends house with a big property. Few of us head up to Regency Stadium in LaPlata to fly every couple of Fridays...

WaldorfR/C is a shop in Waldorf Md that is a dedicated bunch of Track guys for Nitro and electric R/C trucks and cars..i'd give them a shout and see what tracks they know of around the area..

Waldorf RC Home Page is the website for them
Patuxent Aeromodelers is the local flying field website..
GPA Hobbies - Maryland's Largest Hobby Selection - Home Page is a decent hobby shop a bit north in Crofton - they carry car and truck and nitro and aircraft supplies....

there is definately a decent amount of R/C guys around..but we're scattered and i don't think i've just "run into" anyone else doing it unless i organize it or head out with friends....

Yes Waldorf RC is a great place. I live in Great Mills and go there when I need something done to mine. I usually just run at parks also. Haven't found anyone to run with though

I would be interested in helping to get a group of guys together who would like race their 10th and 8th scale nitro cars. Would pitch in for boards, that sort of thing...provided we could find a lot that would be willing to host us every now and then.

Thoughts?

That would be awesome. Or you could set up something where we could all meet up somewhere just to have a good time running them to see what everyones can do. I have a Traxxas T-Maxx 3.3 racing engine 4-Wheel drive. I just cant seem to get mine tuned right for some reason. Never have been very good at that. I'm sure it can run a lot better than it does if I could get it tuned right.

I'm pretty good at tuning...granted...it's been some years since I've really engaged in the hobby. I did run my old Hyper 7 PCR a couple weeks ago. Fired up like a champ.

Do you have a temp gun or gauge? That's a great way to determine how the engine is running. If not, you can do the ole spit test. ;) Does it idle fast or slow? What type of engine do you have?

Regarding getting a group...I could post a comment on rctech...that's where all the serious racers in the DMV area exchanged info...to see who would be interested in meeting and what they are running.

I have older models Hyper 7 PCR; team losi xxx-nt; and my baby...Mugen MRX4 (that I bought from Chris Whitney from the wizards). It has a .21 Novarossi JP mod motor that screams. I would love to race that again. Only thing...being new to the area...not sure where to go or suggest.

Sold my 10th scale onroad a while back, but would get another if there was a parking lot racing scene for 10th scale.

Planes:

P-51 mustang with .32 engine and tuned pipe that was used for racing.
Hobbico Superstar trainer
And another high wing trainer I can't recall at the moment. :)

I'm hardcore into the R/C hobby....have a Duratrax raze .28...a HPI MT2....A Super Nitro Rally .18....a Mini Revo...a Slash Paltinum.....and god knows what else...car/truck wise..

I have 12 helicopters ranging from mini indoor ones to 500 size thumpers...

but i'm crazy with planes..have 26 now..mostly foamie parkjets i build myself...anything you can think of and stuff you maybe can't lol! so i'm always down to meet local guys into the hobby....but my main time and interest is in stuff that flies :)

Lol at tuning. I have a temp gauge. (needs new batteries). I have also done the spit test, but I just can't seem to get things right for some reason. It idles kind of fast. I did the pinch test on the line like the manual says to do. It is a 3.3 racing engine. I tried the planes, but when I took it out, it nose dived to the ground and is messed up. Just haven't gotten the parts to fix it. Would like to get it fixed and learn how to fly it though. I also have a helicopter that I am learning how to fly if the wind will ever die down so I can actually take it out again and fly it

I can definitely help you in the plane and helicopter department....always like helping someone get into the air.
