On 11/12/04 members of the St. Mary’s County Bureau of Criminal Investigations responded to the Chevy Chase Bank located inside of the Giant food store located in the First Colony Shopping Center in California, MD for a reported robbery.
Investigation revealed on 11/12/04 at 0930 hours, the suspect, later identified as Anthony Roach, 20 years old from Mechanicsville, MD, approached two employees of the Chevy Chase Bank located in the front of the Giant store. The suspect, armed with a handgun later determined to be a realistic looking BB gun, robbed the employees of Chevy Chase Bank currency. The suspect was then confronted outside the store by an off duty Fairfax Co. Police officer. The suspect then ran to an adjacent parking lot next to the Lowes home improvement store where his vehicle was parked. The suspect drew his gun in the direction of the off duty police officer, who was in pursuit, at which time the off duty police officer fired several rounds at the suspect. The suspect was not hit with any shots fired. The suspect got into his vehicle and traveled to the rear of Lowes at which time he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a drainage pond located behind Lowes. The suspect was then placed under arrest by arriving officers. The stolen money was recovered by BCI investigators. The suspect has been charged with Armed Robbery, Felony Theft and 2nd Degree assault. BCI investigator David Alexander Is handling the investigation.
