What happened to my tail?

We had a black tailess cat when I was a kid, she was the coolest cat around.

Spooky was her name.

I think I saw that cat's tail on my walk the other morning. I was looking for the rest of the cat. At first I thought it was a really big wooley bear catepillar laying by the side of the road, but upon closer inspection it wasn't.
