One thing I think should be drilled into every enlisted, officer and civilian within DoD is that you don't share your business on social media or with the "news: media. By law, you may not have the authority to release information, particularly information that may be sensitive or classified.
If I recall from the original story on his being removed from command, it was the going public.
That has nothing to do with being a whistle-blower, it has to do with going outside the CoC and exceeding the bounds of your authority.
