What if Hakeem Jeffries wins the Speakership?

What can a Speaker do if the majority of the house belongs to the other party.

If Hakeem Jeffries is Speaker does that mean nothing will get passed.?

If it meant that I would vote for him myself. But then we have to think about the 18 republicans that vote with the democrats.

Thankfully it was avoided.
This is - challenging. I GET that Republicans have at least grown a pair and are willing to stand up to even their OWN if they believe they've capitulated to the swamp.

But the Dems were predictably in total, lockstep unity when it came to the vote. As they always are. It's one thing to object on *principle* but another should the Dems elect the Speaker because they were too busy squabbling on the precipice. They barely have the votes to pass ANYTHING - now is not the time to fuss over minutiae when the whole damned thing can collapse.

I have no major heartburn with Mike Johnson. He's not who I'd pick but if it came down to him or Hakeem Jeffries there's no contest.

I appreciate the Republicans who are making a stink and not just doing what the bosses tell them. They're trying and that counts for something. One of the things that irks me is this Party loyalty bullshit - they're supposed to be loyal to We the People, not to each other and certainly not to foreign countries or special interests.
