What is it with the freaking Democrats?

They have no interests other than leftwing politics and causing a disruption. We're talking about retirement in the other thread, and here comes some Democrat trolling and mucking up the discussion with their political bullshit.

THIS is why conservatives cannot find common ground with them - they live/breathe/eat hatred and fight picking. It's a religion for them and they are completely obsessed to the exclusion of everything else. Then they have the nerve to say *MAGA* is a cult....

No, it's religion, and they're charged with a mission to save the world.
Trust me, been there, done that, and lived with family who did for another twenty years. I know this.

It exactly resembles a cult, but if you like, fundie religion. If Supreme Leader says X, then X is gospel.
If five minutes later Supreme Leader DENOUNCES X, then it is anathema, and everyone is against it.

If you do not agree - then they need to enlighten you, because you are ignorant and need enlightening.
But if you then refuse, you are infidel and refuse because you are evil (racist, sexist, homophobic etc) and aren't worthy to even spit on.

And Great Ghrotty Ghru forbid, you should worship something ELSE.

Probably why they love Islamic terrorists so much - they're exactly the same.

Scientology just amazes me.
It's a cult made up on a bet, and these Hollyweird fools fall for it.

Well Scientology has only ensnared a handful of Hollywood types and my experience with cults is, the more famous or rich you are, the less likely you will experience the harsher aspects of the cult. They shield them and make it easier on them for the sake of PR.

Scientology and Kabala and all those cults specifically cultivate celebrities because they know Americans are obsessed and will do what Madonna and Tom Cruise do so they can pretend to be like them. It's no different than Kylie Jenner Lip Kit or that football player with the *urk* mayonnaise scented cologne.

The actual people in charge (at least 40% of them comprise of 2% of the population) realized they can be a lot more blatant with their actions and people will run cover for them regardless.
That's what happened.

Ooh, I do because it fascinates me. Somewhat, anyway - after awhile they're all boring overindulged whiners. But what makes someone need attention so bad that they'll become famous and a target for every crank in the world, then complain when they get attention, but hire a publicist to get them more attention? They post stupid crap on social media, then get all mad when the randos light them up. When strangers know you quite intimately because you put all your personal business out for them to see/read, then get mad because you have no privacy.

Fascinating.

I haven't noticed any A-listers do it, but I have come across several live tiktoks with actors who I knew the name of with only a couple dozen watchers and they were typically very interactive. One of the things I have seen them do often is open residual checks, so you can see when they get like 48 cents for a co-starring role in an 80s sitcom episode or occasionally up to a couple hundred bucks for starring roles in still highly syndicated shows. Checks are sent out quarterly and group appearances, so that 48 cent check would be for every showing of season 4 episode 6 of "Alf" or whatever in that time period.

Same. I've often wondered what happens to an actor who struggles waiting tables, doing three jobs, living almost hand to mouth and wondering WHEN or if they'd ever get the big break - knowing the odds are stacked against them ---

And they MAKE IT. (I read once that Shatner gets mildly enraged at the sight of fruit salad, because he more or less LIVED on it before he had success.)

And subsequently turns into the most self-centered assh-le you've ever seen. I often think that it's because they ALWAYS WERE ONE - and success just exposed it.

I do like reading stories about the few that never do that. They act out their roles, but otherwise largely eschew the whole Hollywood life and just live. Occasionally a few gems about people like Keanu who have been spotted doing immensely kind things anonymously. Normally, I would think jadedly, oh that's just carefully constructed PR - but I read on forums FROM people who have experienced it first hand, and post about it.

THOSE stories, I like.

EDIT --

And considering how infrequently it happens, tells you what kind of people populate the industry en masse.

Some careers almost require you to be a cocky assh-le. My wife and I have almost always observed that pilots - military, not commercial - tend to be that way. They HAVE to be. REALLY good surgeons, almost always.

Actors and "celebrities" (people who acquire celebrity, like the Kardashians or Paris Hilton, without ever actually achieving anything other than being rich) - their livelihood depends almost entirely on a pretend persona and public perception.

I suppose it helps if you're already massively superficial.

If you read that article, though, Keanu has endured almost legendary heartache and personal tragedy. My life's observation is that it either makes you permanently bitter - or tremendously kind.
