What is the deal with Bands?

Last night I went to an event that had a pretty good band. However, I couldn't get anywhere near the dance floor to dance with my wife because the band was so insanely loud. Wife loves to dance. I am aware that bands that are bad always turn the volume up to disguise how bad they are. But somewhat good ones don't need to. There are laws for how loud your music can be in your car. It doesn't apply to bands since it isn't classifed as disturbing the peace. However, the damage it can do to your hearing can be significant. The ringing of the ears is overwhelming.

I tried the dance floor a few times only to feel my ear drums being nearly blown out. How does anyone enjoy that? On top of that my wife decided to try to dance toward the side of the dance floor only to loose me in the crowd. The next thing I knew I had four young ladies in their 20s moving in to dance with me. I felt like Chevy Chase in one of his movies! lol. Guys their age simply don't dance. Since I am old enough to be their father my wife got a "goood" kick out of it. I was done with dancing at that point.

If you are around loud noise in general, you will see one day. Perhaps not now. But you will. An ENT who I have known for years has said it effects everyone. Not just "Pops" as you like to put it. And I'm not a Pops age yet.
Calm down Karen, it was a joke...
In 40 + - days I will be 65 my friend. Hundreds of concerts, 50 plus years of banging steel for a living, machine guns and Shovelheads with drag pipes.
I'm at around a 40% loss as of now.

...as Thing 2 likes to say to me on occasion "Calm down, Boomer". 🤣🤣🤣

@3CATSAILOR - where were you? What type of music was the band playing? Some of the venues over in St Mary's County (and Southern Calvert) are pretty small but some have outdoor setups, also. Live music tends to be... loud. I find some band's music genres louder than others. Sometimes the band could be a little too loud for the place they're in and maybe they're not aware of it. Did you try mentioning it to their sound guy (in a nice way)?

Unless I'm at an outdoor concert in a large venue - to me all bands are just too loud. Probably number one reason why I don't go.
Well that and being old.

If I go to Calvert Marine Museum - I know they won't be too loud because - neighbors, vendors and so forth.

OMG, y'all. What do you consider to be old?!! I just turned 64. A LOT of the music I go to out there attracts many people of all ages, but there are a lot of 50-60+ yr olds out there!!

if you will
A few years ago, I started bringing earplugs to concerts. I think it really helps. I have the silicone type that are connected with a string, and that store in a small cylinder. They are easy to store/deploy when you need them. Really loud music sounds fine when you wear them.

If you want to hear good live music locally, Coastline plays several places around the county, always outdoors. They play a variety of music.

Do they have a Facebook page or a website? I can't find them on social media.

BTW, there are a ton of bands in the southern Maryland area and there are multiple social media pages that promote all the various venues hosting musicians and groups. Also, acoustic groups/ensembles tend to be less loud. 👍

Maybe? I didn't get a great search last night when I tried. Then again, I had lousy reception at Scuttlebutts in Cobb Island -- where I went to hear LIVE MUSIC! *Very small venue as they were inside. "Motown Butta" was playing. A VERY special treat - their "regular guitarist" was in vaca - so a friend of the keyboard player - Tom Crosby - came out and played with them. He used to play with a little group called Peaches & Herb...OMG, was he awesome! :larry:

I'll try to post a video later. (These pics are screenshots of rhe videos...I have to adjust the size of my photos to upload...they're too large! :bawl: )
