Would you agree being a 40 (something) year old parent was a lot easier than being a 20 year old parent??
I'm a parent for the *first* time at 40 something, and family and friends already say older parents are more patient and treasure the moments more.

But I was fortunate inasmuch as my *own* dad was adopted when HIS father was in his 40's. I asked him if it bothered him that his dad was "old" when other kid's dads were young. He said not at all. He said the one thing he liked the most about HIS dad was, Dad always had time for him. He didn't need to do anything else.

Itsbob, when is your sons b-day? Sounds like our kids are very near the same age. And if you don't mind my asking, how young are you?
Since I didn't see Bob reply, I'll do it for him.

Our son's birthday is Jan 3rd.

Bob is 45 and I am 44. I had Bubba just a month shy of my 43rd birthday. Oh, and I am young, Bob is not.

My daughter's birthday is Dec 26, so she is the older one  and there's nothing wrong with that. I'm 40, and her dad just turned 33 in July.

It is easier in some regards. I think I have more patience. I know they grow up so fast, so I think I spend more time just enjoying every moment. I'm not saving pennies to buy milk and diapers at 40 like I was at 20. However, I do remember having more energy at 20 to keep up with a toddler! I wouldn't change it for the world!

What's your opinion? Do you spend everyday explaining to people that your son is your son but your grandson is your grandson? Sometimes it drives me crazy!
I LOVE his energy.. Just trying to keep up with him keeps me (us) moving and tends to keep us off of the couch, and we spend more time outdoors. I'm much more relaxed, don't freak out over every cough or sputter.. and let him pick himself back up if he falls.

BG's relatives think I'm mean, he falls or hits his head and three of them will start running for him.. I tell them to stop, let him handle it, and they think that is SOOO wrong. But 9/10 times he gets up, brushes himself off, and continues going about doing what he was doing.. no tears, no crying, than later will show us his "boo boo", kind of like his big badge of courage.

I missed my other four kids growing up.. I was a young soldier, and was "in the field" when they were young.. I didn't hear their first words, or see their first steps. This time I'm part of all of it, and am there when he gets out of bed in the AM and goes to bed at night.

I've never had to explain the grandfather thing (not yet anyways) but when his older sister is with him and me we get some STRANGE looks.. She's 14 but looks 19, so you can imagine what they are thinking..

:blushing: Why, thank you.

But just to clarify something....did you just insinuate that Bob DOES look old?

If so, that would just make my day. :lmao:

Yeah, leashes are for dogs not for kids. My daughter held either my or my husbands hand the whole time. It think its wrong to have a strap on a childs hand or a "backpack" with a nylon leash attached. It looks stupid and personally I will never use one. :yay:

Let me add, I've never used one, but there were times when I would have had I had one. Much easier on the kid and you than holding onto the collar.
One time at the top of Seneca Rocks I would have paid $500 for one.
