So I'll be fifty in two months. For the first time in my life, (except when pregnant or nursing), I skipped a period last month. The one I have this month is very light. In the past month I got my first traffic ticket, bounced my mortgage check, (haven't bounced a check in over thirty years), called my thirty something male boss a F**king A**hole to his face, forgot to pay the cable bill and got it cut off. I can't stand the sight of my husband, in fact I fear for his life! How long does this crap last? It must be the final throes of my reproductive life but how can I be sure it's menopause? Oh and I can't frigging sleep.....

Oh God, I went thru it and it was awful. Probobly threathened my hubby a few times. If it wasnt the severe mood swings it was the holy sh!t hot flashes. Mine unfortunatly lasted every bit of 6 yrs. Now I wasnt absolutly horrible all 6 years, heck a yr or two all I did was cry. Do what I did to protect every one. Put all weapons out of your reach, take what ever pill you can find thats works for you. Put a fan on high right next to your bed cause it seems the hot flashes always start at the top of the head, I felt mine might explode:sarcasm:, but your husband probably wont like that, so sometimes you get a free pass, cool down over his comfort, he can sleep elsewhere, in fact you would welcome that. Thats my story and Im sticking to it. Tell hubby to get a real thick skin. Good luck, I do believe mine is almost over, an occasion flash and I still like the fan.

I just turned 50 a couple of weeks ago! I've been having periods every other month for the last 6 months, can't sleep, and am burning up when everyone around me is freezing to death.

OMG! I remember when my mother went through it... I used to call my parents just about daily and ask her to put dad on the phone so I could verify he was still alive and not buried in the cellar...:lmao:

First of all, an early Happy birthday to you and wish you many more. Second, I saw my mom go through this and it can be insane but hang in there. You might want to try eating tofu. They claim it helps.

:lmao: No, not at your discomfort. This is EXACTLY why my ex is now an ex... went thru the change and boy, did things change!!

:killingme...track him down...I'd rather give him a ham sandwich and a road map back from whence he came! I'm not a huge complainer but if I mention any symptom at all he comes back with one of his own and any fight we have he blames on my predicament. By his reckoning, if he stays out all night, drinks and drives, stuffs his whole paycheck down a stripper's panties or gambles it away, my irritation is due to my hormone level. I think he sees it more of an excuse than I do.

Thanks for the heads-up

I'll be 52 in a few months and have started the change. I missed a few periods about 6 months ago and then started with the hot flashes. Thankfully (or not) the hot flashes went away and my periods restarted.

I have also felt more irritable lately. So good! Now I have somthing to blame it on. (I don't have a husband to take it out on. I'll have to try to spare the kids and the dog. That means I'll have to take it out on the job ).

I started menopause at age 32! :jet: It's called Premature Ovarian Failure. Basically, you use up all your eggs before the "normal" age of menopause. But without all the horrible side-effects. :yahoo: No mood swings, no hot flashes.
