If it was CONTROLLED competition by a recognized organization, I'd let my kid do it as soon as he/she was strong enough to twist a throttle. As far as making his own rules, riding the power lines, woods, etc. he'd have to be age 21 and no longer living at home.

I can help you here...There are classes for younger kids to race and learn...My son does it... You need to be a member of AMA...Then a member of District 7 which is Md, Pa, Del, Va, WV...We race just about every weekend..They have A, B, C, Vet30+, Vet40+, 0-50cc Ltd, 4-6 Youth, 0-50cc Prod. 6-8 Youth, 71-90cc Mod. 9-15 Youth, 71-90cc Prod. 8-15 Youth, 51-70cc Prod, 6-11 Youth, 200/300cc 13-15 Prod. Youth, What size ATV does he have? Then you can pick a class according to bike size and age...Then there is an outlaw track that we run sometimes for practice...That is down near Tappahannock, Va. They have different classes too...They have the younger ones also...Here are their classes..It is not cheap especially when you get up in the higher classes...We have been running all up and down the east coast this summer...The boy is doing great though...That's why we keep going...He is leading District 7 in the points and well on his way to a championship...Don't want to speak too soon...The outlaw track in Va is very family friendly too...If you need more information just PM me and I'll help you...
