to your first post. My wife works at Macys and most of the custodial crew does not speak English. At least they are working and not out knocking folks in the head. Their English will come, just like it has for most of those who have imigrated to this country...the melting pot lives!

The U.S. is a Melting Pot - my Grandparents came from Italy and never spoke the English language. For some, learning a 2nd language other then their 1st may not come easy as it is for others especially as you get older. Too, some people are proud of their heritage and even though they come to the U.S. to make a better life for themselves, they don't want to lose their identity of who they are and where they came from.
