So, I can't claim the spinners that I had installed, or the new $1,000 per tire rims I just put on?

There is a per mile allowance for business purposes, but there are restrictions on the limit that you can deduct. If the driving is incidental to your job, like driving around PAX, I believe the expense must exceed 10% of your AGI.

This is a prime example of the folly of the US Tax Code. People think they can write off anything, the goal is to get a big refund, even though it is your own money!

It would be much better to scrap the current income tax and replace with a flat tax with NO DEDUCTIONS, or even better, the Fair Tax, a national sales tax and NO INCOME TAX. The Government would get money from the underground economy, the money spent filling out, filing and defending tax returns would go into the economy. The anti-Fair Taxers try to get people to think this sales tax would be on current prices, not admiting that prices would be very much lower since companies would not have to pay the accountants, lawyers, lobbyists, etc. to get tax breaks, and the actual tax.
