Wow. I can't imagine being an animal stuck in a crate and doing 70mph down the highway. Must have been terrifying.

I have seen it several times on I-81, and the average speed there is 80 MPH. The sad one was the dog in the open wire crate, at least with the plastic they get some protection from flying rocks. And just to be clear I am not saying it is OK just that I have seen it. When I had a dog my 200 lb bubby rode in the middle up front right next to me.

Shoot, used to ride in the back of Dad's truck when we were kids. I guess that wouldn't work for some of you.

I wouldn't have a problem with it being in the bed of the truck. If that guy got rear ended, the pooch would be a goner. Not to mention, I just think it would be terrifying for a dog, but that's just me projecting I guess.

But think of it this way, if he had a head on, the dog would have a better chance of survival than he would. My dogs always rode in the front seat of the truck with me. Had a bench seat in the old truck. New one has separate seats, but then I don't have my dogs any longer.

totally aggree. the back bed of a truck is completely different than hanging off the bumber of an SUV on the highway. I saw this story yesterday...made me cry :bawl: I would've done what those people did who called the police several times and followed the vehicle until they saw the SUV pulled over. I just can't imagine how frightened the poor thing was :frown:
