What would you do?

Last year, we remodeled our Master Bath. Many of the items I purchased were found in the classifieds here to include a brand new soaking tub and Cerdisastone tiles made in Italy. I did it this way because I have been saving up to redo my kitchen and knew I was going to have to tap into my stash in order to do this bathroom. Well, I have 3 boxes of Cerdisastone tiles leftover, which is more than enough to do our hallway bathroom. I was thinking that if I changed the grout color, that I would change the appearance of the tile – or at least hoped to do that. But I ask this… if you were looking at a house to purchase, would you find it odd to see the same tiles in 2 different bathrooms?

Not odd at all. My one full bath and half bath have the same flooring (not tile) and I can't see that being a problem when/if I sell the house.

Your responses make me feel better about doing this... these Cerdisastone tiles are real nice... I couldn't believe I even found them in the classifieds here last year... and frankly to put anything in there that is at least as good is going to cost a great deal of money. I just don't want to spend that money right now if it means tapping into my kitchen fund (which it would).

I can't imagine any stone tile (unless it's incredibly butt ugly or outdated) would be a minus in a bathroom. Heck, I have linoleum in my master bath and it looks so tile authentic the last home inspector I had here was shocked when I told her it wasn't really tile. She even got down to touch it to make sure that was the case.

My neighbors put linoleum in their kitchen that looks like tile also. I was impressed. And no, this tile is neutral and very nice stuff. We pulled up our bathroom floor and the veneer flooring underneath the linoleum is water damaged. Thankfully, the ply board is fine. Now that the linoleum is up, I have no choice but to make a shot gun decision. I just wanted validation that using the 3 left over boxes I have wouldn't be strange.

These are some pictures I snapped that were while we were working on the Master bathroom (I never took any after it was done). As you can see on the wall, the tiles appear darker than they do on the floor (bathroom window) but since this hall bath doesn't have a window, they will look more like the tiles around the tub (darker).

My prior homes were all done in the same flooring/carpeting/paint.

I looked at the home next door to me before I bought my previous home. I loved the floor plan (identical to the one I was looking at)

She had bought carpet remnants and different vinyl for the kitchen and bathrooms and each room was a different color. There wasn't a flow from room to room. This was new construction so she had a say in the matter.

You saw my home and know what I'm talking about.

The tile you found is nice. Go with it. :yay:

Thanks W,

Hubby is putting down the hall bath floor today with the tiles we have now that I feel confident that it isn't some decorating 'no-no.' :yay:

I have never had enough tile left over from one bathroom to do another and the only reason I do now is because I bought it in the classifieds here and took all he had.

No, and I would like the house more if the flooring were the same... or at least complimentary of each other.

Looks good. Reminds me a lot of the homes in Southern California. Very nice :yay:

Thank you. My husband and I did this. He has such a crazy work schedule that I am glad I was raised like a boy to pitch in when needed. I just really do not like using power tools - never felt real comfy with that... 'cuz I'm clumsy and although it did take over a month to finish, it got done for under $1800- which included installing a shower.

I agree, I like a complimentary flow of colors throughout the house. We recently tiled 3 baths with the same neutral colored tile and I love it. Our main living area, bathrooms included, is all neutral colors and accented with bright colors.

Dakota, your bathroom looks really nice!

Thanks day...

Well, we ended up with 1 box left but that's fine... you never know when you need replacements.
