A banking error created a fat bank account for a Hull teenager, whom Madison County sheriff’s deputies said went on a spending spree and pocketed $20,000 in cash.

The error occurred March 7, when a Madison County man went into First Citizens Bank on U.S. Highway 29, Hull, and made a $31,000 deposit, but because there are several people by the same name with accounts at the bank, the teller put the money into the wrong account, according to the sheriff’s report.

I would have called the bank and told them they messed up! This actually happened to us once. Hubby's payroll accidentally added an extra zero to his direct deposit. Would have been nice to play with the money, but he would have had to work for a while for free to pay it back. It's common sense that the money was put there accidentally, so if you spent it, it would come back on you some day!!

I'd probably call them too, but I’d have wanted to buy a castle with a moat and secret passages and stuff.

I checked my moms IRA one day and she had an extra $700k in there, the next day it was gone and was where it should have been. I about #### a brick when I saw that.

Worked with a girl years ago who got $500 extra in one of her paychecks. When told to return it, she proceeded to try to set the building on fire. Needless to say, she got fired and spent some time in jail, just because she didn't want to give back the $500.

Sounds like a stable chick to me.

That would depend on my medical state at the time. If I was relatively healthy that would be one thing, but if I were terminal already...

This reminds me about 10 years ago a friend at work received an absurd amount of over time in his paycheck. He notified payroll and they took it out, except they took out the gross and not the net so his new paycheck was his regular amount minus the withholding on that extra amount. His paycheck was less than half of its normal size because of this, payroll just could not understand their mistake. He pretty much spent 40 hrs trying to get his check straightened out.
