What's a "non-tariff trade barrier"?

Does anyone know of an example? Like, maybe, heavy government subsidizing an industry to compete with another country's?

Dumping product in another country at a much lower price, intentionally taking a loss, to damage the other country's manufacturing.

Quotas - how much of a product can be imported. Regulations for product content (think FDA, EPA, etc). Pretty much anything that restricts the flow of goods (it could even be religious in nature).

I've read - possibly have some of my facts wrong - that Canada has done this, specifically by buying cheap steel from China - and dumping it on us.

I should go research this some more.

I've said often enough - we have ALLIES - not friends. Allies do spy on each other and change allegiances - and do what they damn well please if it is in their own interests.

Hold up unloading perishable goods, I heard a story about Lettuce rotting on Japan's docks.
Damn, this is criminal. I'd refuse to do business forever with anyone who did that.

I read more and more about over regulation in this country - and I begin to think, it is an industry in itself. Wife and I have started to notice that doctor's offices are now having REQUIRED FORMS - which they charge you to fill out and turn in to them. The fees are small, so the only rationale is, it exists to support the staff who process it. Making it pointless.
