Whats happening with Matties restaurant in Spring Ridge. People are asking the question. The place seems to be closed. Was it the liquor board , the health dept or what? There seem to be a lot of rumors going around. Does anyone know if it is reopening or what?

Yep. Tigerlily was so sad. She's worked there for awhile and had to turn in her key. And Dougster was trying to steal all the beer signs in the place. :lmao:

They had a man who was going to buy it but he backed out last minute.

Yes it is sad. We didn't get any signs though :killingme I called that night and begged the lady working and she told me I could want in one hand and shiat in the other and see what filled up first. :killingme

No one is really completely sure at this point if the buyer backed out or not. What we do know is that it had been closed since Easter with the exception of opening for a few hours Friday to liquidate stock. It is sad for not only those of us that worked there but for the many regular customers who now have to find someplace else to eat and drink.

No free food , it was open to the public and drinks and food were discounted but not half price. Mostly it was word of mouth from those of us that got a call the day before. :coffee:

I wish I could cook. I would certainly buy it. I would enjoy my workdays better working in the county where I can go that everybody knows my name and they're always glad they came. :bawl:

Seriously, I wonder how much is the building going for. I think someone may buy it and start there own restaurant. Seems like it is a good investment for those who will miss Matties.

Friends of ours have bought it and last I heard they were waiting for the sale of their current business to go through and then buy Matties. They are hoping to keep the same staff and menu but it will take them awhile to get things going. I'm sure there will be a hiccup or two, though!

If your talking about Mom & Pops Pizza I say whatever!!! I will not even go into the deal with them. The menu and the staff are gone. Since no one purchased Joyce's business it in effect ended and she has all right's to it's name recipes etc. As far as the staff is concerned they might be able to get one or two of the old employees to return the rest of us have gone with Joyce to Evan's.

No way in hell that it'll be nearly the same. Joyce made that damn place. I can guarantee that their Cream of Crab will not touch Joyce's. :bawl:

The lastest I had heard was they would try to keep the same staff and food - I'm guessing that didn't work out. Why be mad at folks who buy a business that is for sale? Why not be angry at the folks who sold it?

Who's angry? I am simply stating facts here. The business was not sold it was up for sale but the owners of the property decided they wanted to sell the building and not lease again. So in fact this would have been a two part sale A. the purchase of the business, inventory, etc from Joyce & B. The purchase of the building and property and equipment. It is possible to go with option B only and then bring in your own business. In option A though there is no point in purchasing a business that you have no place to operate in. So in a nutshell the ball on this one was, is and will be in the hands of the property owners. The word on the street now is that due to the business closing it no longer will fall under the county's grandfather clause so the building will have to be demolished.

It's all a bunch of crap(rumors, rumors) St marys county's best

The thing I find funny about the whole thing is no one knows the real story. It's all hear say. She said, he said. The other funny thing is that Joyce I understand hated the Pub. She was sooo jealous of them down the street and now what has she done, she has sent her business there. I'm not saying her good business because the good customers have gone elsewhere, most of them seeking the few good employees that worked there. I ran into one the other day and they said it was a real shame. I dont see any ads for the grand opening of Evans on Mothers Day. Is that still happening? Rumor has it the place needs a lot of work. As for the crab soup, anyone can make crab soup all you have to do is throw the shells in. I think Joyce should open somewhere and call it Joyce and Val's place. Well it is ashame that things happened the way they did. I know some of the employess there, actually I knew all of them, just some better then others. Joyce might have knocked them down for a while, but a couple of them are doing much better because of it. It was Joyce's loss for losing them. Seems she is the one out of work right now. Good Luck Matties, hopefully you will return one day even stronger . Something good has to come out of all of this.
