What's in a name?

Pushrod

Patriot
My handle came from back in the late 90's when I was riding a 1969 Harley hard tail chopper across Canada with a couple of clubs. I was losing compression on the bikes every day so that by the end of that day's ride once I shut it off it would not kick back over. Ends up the valves where slowly burning down into the heads increasing the pushrod tension and causing lost compression. So every evening I would pull the bike into whatever hotel room we were crashing in and adjust the lifters for proper pushrod tention. The bike made it all the way out to St. John's Newfoundland and back with these constant adjustments. Everyone started calling me 'Pushrod' after that trip.

I got a new job and not wanting to screw up my cookies on either machine, I chose to make a new one up for use at work (since I'm rarely here from home anymore, "Frank" hasn't been posting as much). I've always thought Bogie in "The Maltese Falcon" was cool, and I'd already had a cool avatar in the Sinatra pic. So I added SamSpade. After about 400 posts or so, several people commented that my writing style was so unmistakeable, they knew it was "Frank" right away.

Oddly enough, having posted as 'Frank' on some form of the forums for something like seven years, as SamSpade I'm slowly overtaking the number of posts. Although I don't see how anyone can have thousands of posts to their credit, and not lose their mind.

Toxick

Splat
Back in the day, when I would spend days on end playing Doom Deathmatch, and then Quake, Q][ and Q]|[, I thought it would be funny if I called myself "Toxic Enema"

Everyone just started calling me Toxic. It would oftentimes get misspelled as Toxick, and I kept the 'k' because I thought it looked cool.

I officially dropped the 'enema' part when I saw someone on Usenet had the same dumbass nickname.

I just logged on to say bye before I left on my "business" trip, yes Darby a business trip for a girl with 7 yes 7 tats. Maybe in your opinion tats don't belong in the business world but in "today's" world people don't care. I'm 23, a financial analyst for a Navy Contractor and just about every day wear a skirt suit to work with a tattoo on my ankle which is very visible. I do have meetings with clients on a pretty regular basis and never has one of my clients said anything to me or one of my superiors about me not looking professional. My boss is a ret. Navy Captain and he hired me with it. I have a tat on my neck and when my hair was shorter you could also see it. That if nothing else in the professional world was a discussion piece. I've had plenty of clients and co-workers tell me how cute and original it is. I guess the point is fortunately in the world "I" live in my career is based on my capabilities rather then my tattoos. And unfortunately we live in a world with people who base their opinions on looks rather then what people really have to offer.

Barbara,
Happy birthday girl! I have 7 tats. butterfly on my neck, dolphin on my shoulder, daisy in the small of my back, tribal on my ribcage, butterfly on my hip, chinese writing meaning "to change" on my ankle and a caterpillar on my big toe.

All,
Leaving for VA Beach/Norfolk! Everyone have a great weekend and I will talk to you all on Tuesday when I get back! Behave and don't do anything I wouldn't do!

Pay no attention to Kwillia, she's had a hate for chocolate ever since she was fired at the M & M factory for throwing the Ws away.

Seeing as the thread is about names, may I ask how "Kwillia" came up with that name?

She doesn't want it known on the forums, but you can PM her and ask her.

It's not a secret anymore... I lurked for quite some time and then when I became brave enough to create a userid I decided to create it based on the username of my favorite forum poster "Kyle Wantonly Instills Loads of Laughs Instantly & Always". I came up with the acronym 'kwillia' based on that... the irony is that I eventually found out his real name isn't "kyle" after all but now I'm stuck with a broked handle...:banghead:
