For months I have been trying to find a used 3/4 ton pickup to replace mine that got pancaked in the recent hurricane.
I found 3 decent vehicles at decent prices, all in our classifieds (autotrader, ebay, and cars.com are a joke, unless you want to buy from a dealer 2-3 hours away at too high prices). But, it seems like all 3 of these guys did everything possible to sabotage the sale of their vehicle.
First guy had a Chevy up in Calvert. Contacted him, but he had some punk kid who wanted to buy it, but the kid couldn't get anyone to give him a loan. I told the guy I would come up that night and if it looked good, he could have a cashier's check in his hand the next day. No, no, we're gonna give the kid another chance...he has until xxx to get the money.
Time comes and go and the seller lets me know the kid never came thru...we'll get together. Not too long later he comes back and tells me, well the kid came thru and I sold it to him.
Second guy is up in Mechanicsville. Call him and no, no, can't see it today I have a party here and won't leave for even 30 minutes to sell this truck I advertised as MUST SELL. But, it's parked out by 235, go take a look and let me know what you think.
I drive all the way to Mechanicsville and look at it. Not the greatest shape, but for the price, I'll take it. Call the guy back and arrange a meetup time the next day. He calls the next day and says can't do it, gotta go do something else. It's a week before Christmas and he's going to Florida at the end of the week. Again, I tell this guy...cash in hand ... can close today. I think another appointment falls thru and the jackass doesn't have the courtesy to respond to further inquiries.
Now, there's a third guy this week. He lives close. Takes about a day to respond to emails, no phone listed. Set a date for last night, then writes to say he has to work late, but we can do it today after. I write back and say OK....when? where? Still no answer. I have his phone number now, but I'm not going to beg someone to sell me something.
It amazes me that people advertise things for sale and then show an utter lack of respect for a potential buyers time.
