Why me??
Hello Mothers and Fathers. I have a couple questions for you all. I am expecting my first baby this November. When am I suppose to go register with the hospital?? Does the hospital have the birthing classes or am I suppose to go find a place?? I totally forgot to ask my Dr. my last visit and my next one is not for another 2 weeks. Thanks to everyone!!

My Fiancee is 20 weeks along, and we are registered already. I think you can register as early as possible, and they will let you know when the appropriate time to being classes will be. I know St Mary's Hospital lhas classes, not sure about others. :yay:

Just re-read and say you are due in November, i would say register NOW!!

I delivered at Civista and I registered when I went to the birthing class (offered by the hospital). I went later in my pregnancy (I was 35 weeks) and it prohibited me from some of the exercises they wanted to do (for example, there was a pushing exercise that I was told not to do). So, any time really - but I would recommend doing it before 34 - 35 weeks.

I won't be doing a birthing class this time around, and I will probably register when I have to go in for my rhogam (sp?) shot (I am RH Negative).

I called health connections to register. Took the class right in their building and they gave the tour of the hospital

Are you using St.Marys Hospital? My doctor gives me the forms to fill out at my 28 week appointment to register for the hospital. You have until your 36 week visit to return them. I would do it as early as possible but would ask your doctor because they may give you the forms. At this time I am also given the birth plan to fill out. As for classes, the doctor office I use recommends that you sign up for these by 24 weeks.

You should of gotten something from your Dr's with information about pregnancy and i want to say it's health connections who i called. My Dr. said to get in a month before the baby is due. Knowing a lot of women who are expecting around the same time i am i decided to go ahead and register. The class is at St. Mary's Hospital (you might want to look at the St. Mary's Hospital website for a number or health connections). You can try calling the main hospital number and they can tell you where to go! After you talk to someone about it they'll write your information down and send out a letter. That offers additional classes. The birthing class is $45 and the other classes are either free or $10 or more depending on the class you take. If i was you i would register as soon as you can. Good Luck and welcome to the pregnant club!!

You normally take your birthing class around your 20 week mark. And you can just go up to the hospital any time to register. If I were you I would at your next appt get register and find a class asap if you want birthing class.

I took the class my first time around. It was cool, But this is my third one and I said screw it! The breathing techniques goes right out the door as soon as you are in labor! LOL

Oh by the way Congrats!

I had my daughter in February at Southern Maryland Hospital. I took all 3 of the prenatal classes. The cost for all three classes was like 105.00. It took 3 Saturdays and I began them at the end of December. The lady that taught two of the classes (the parenting and the cpr class) was great. But the man who taught the breastfeeding class was pretty good too.

If you take the Saturday parenting classes at SMH, bring your infant carseat with you that day and she lets you leave class early to get in line outside to have it installed in your car so you dont have to wait in line.
