Not sure how I feel about this. It's obviously an old article. I see this a lot around here actually and try not to judge because of people like the author.

That being said, I have a HUGE problem when I see people driving new model luxury vehicles, with their nails done (acrylic/gel/etc), hair all done up, designer clothing (for adults and kids), talking about going out to party, etc.

*oops - Edited for grammar. Don't want the grammar/spelling police knocking on my door.

I think you hit the nail on the head. It's not just the luxury vehicle. It's the smartphone which we all know requires a data plan along with the processed hair which we all know is not a one time expense, but ongoing upkeep, same with the professionally done nails, etc.

Roger that. A good friend of mine works at St Joseph Catholic church in Zephyrhills, Fl. They have a food bank they open up one day a week, and he told me they stopped giving out food to those in their expensive vehicles, along with all their personal accessories. Even if they come back in a different vehicle, they still refuse to hand out freebies to them. They can afford their own food.

Back in the summer I got bored and went to work a couple of months as a cashier in a grocery store. Almost every single person that came through the line used an EBT card. They slide the card through the machine right in front of me, so you can see exactly what it is. The one here has a very pretty picture of a lighthouse on it, hard to mistake it for any other credit card. One guy came through buying huge steaks for him and his buddy and several pounds of shrimp and said "I can thank Obama for this meal". I bit my tongue because I wanted to let him have it, he was the last straw, so I quit the next day. I got tired of seeing the types of people that take advantage of the system. Besides, I think someone else needed that job a lot more than I did.

Saturday, at the Food Kitty, I was behind an EBT user. Aside from the fact I was in the 12 or less express line and she had over 30 items (unless you count 20+ frozen dinners as one item) I was amazed at the things she was buying. 100% processed food. Not a single thing that would require any effort except putting it in the oven. Of course it was all on the EBT card. As expected, when I saw her in the parking lot she was putting her purchases in the Lexus while chating on her I-phone. Aside from the obvious, another thing that bothers me is that we have a FLOTUS telling schools what foods are good for our children yet she has done nothing to regulate what foods can be bought on an EBT. I know prepared foods, cigs, booze are out but why not unhealthy foods? I have said before that every item has a UPC that could easily be used to regulate choices for EBT purchases that would promote healthy eating. Perhaps fear of maddening the voting base prevents a common sense approach to EBT use.

"New model luxury vehicle"???

The article states she drove a 2003 (yes...2003) Mercedes Kompressor...in 2003, the Kompressor was the C230...the bottom line Mercedes. Autotrader has current asking price for this vehicle range around $5-$7k.

How does that change your perspective?

Consider a 2003 is likely paid off...how does that change your perspective? Would you rather she drove up in a 2014 Prius?

Did you read the entire article? The fact that it WAS paid for before their economic hardship was the POINT. The article really makes sense at that point.

I read the article FIRST, before reading further, and it was apparent that Tami2Red was referring to a completely different situation where that sort of thing does
actually happen. She didn't mean the person in the article.

Does THAT change YOUR perspective?

I wasn't speaking about the author with that comment. The first paragraph was about her. The rest was about what I've seen going on in THIS area. Thus the "That being said...."

People seem to be reading a lot into posts today, that isn't really there. Or making an issue out of poor wording, or personal experiences. tsk tsk.
