HTF could E. Coli get in there other than on purpose?! I know nothing about shipboard water supplies, but I would think potable water is very important to a healthy crew and it isn't directly connected to the septic system on board.

At Cavert Cliffs we always tested positive for e coli in the potable water system. It doesn't take much to get it into a water system.
