When did you introduce the wonderful world of alarm clocks to your child(ren)?

My son had a big bird alarm clock when he was about 3 years old. Scared the hell out of him and everyone else in the house. It was this awful shrill Big Bird voice that screamed "Hello, Big Bird says it's time to wake up."

I'd say when they are going to school. I woke up my oldest son for school...then work...and I think it made for bad habits..he still has some trouble getting up, but that's his wife's problem now. The second son I did differently. He was responsible for getting himself up and off to school and and now to work. Only rarely does he not get up on time.

I've been thinking about buying an alarm clock for her (she's 5). I keep thinking that maybe she's just too young right now, but you're right, starting good habits early will be beneficial for your child as he/she grows older. I think I'll skip the Big Bird clock, though!

Have you found it to be helpful?

Yes, for the most part. Although, she has turned it off on a few occasions.

She has a Disney Princess clock. It either beeps or starts, "Good Morning, I am Cinderella..." and goes into a short story.

My brother had one when he was like 5, It was a train........in the morning the whole house woke up too "Chooooo Chooo........" REALLY loud!! The only person that didn't wake up. My brother.

Mom took it away shortly after, said it was pretty pointless!!

I got one for my kids when they started school. The boy wouldn't leave it alone. Nothing like waking up at 2AM to a blaring BEEP BEEP BEEP.

She'd love a Disney Princess clock. I'll have to hunt for one this weekend.

That's the only thing I'm worried about...getting the crap scared out of me in the middle of the night by Cinderella.

Seeing this thread is funny; I just got my son one. I figured it was time. He is 10, just starting 5th grade. He was fine with the idea. He wakes himself up with it and gets moving. Considering how early he will have to get up next year for middle school, I figured this year was the time to get him used to it.

Speaking of that...what time does school start up there for the elementary kids?
