Where can I drop off my catalytic converter

Hey guys,

I swapped out the exhaust on my car and my old cat is still good. Is there a local place that will give me cash for it? I can mail it out for cash, but I prefer local. Thanks!

Scrap metal place off of 488 towards LaPlata. Or the one in Prince Frederick, or any other scrap metal place.

Just be prepared to prove it came from a car that you own. Too many being stolen at the P&R's and then sold to the scrap metal places.

Can you sell it through Craigslist or some other type of local advertisement?

True, but some places (atleast the one in PF) takes down your DL info, and I believe you're on CCTV the whole time.

There really isn't a way to prove it came form your car...

If you have a registration that says you own 'X' model of 'Y' year and the cat convertor matches that car, you can probably convince them it came from your car.

Catalytic converters are pretty generic. You can pretty much only say, "I have a 2" exhaust, and so does this Cat..."

Eh. I can drive it to the place in the car it came off of. If someone really wants to give me crap, I can pop my hood and show them my new turbo-back exhaust. Plus the cat is still attached to the downpipe, so they can see 100% that it came off my car or I stole it off the exact same type of car.

If the convertor has platnum in it nobody will take it, you have to have license to sell. Scrap metal dealers will turn you away. You have to take it to a special recycling agent, someone with a state license - but they won't accept it from you. Well, at least not legally, if it has platnum it's worth money, but you'll pay them to take it off your hands.
If it's not the type that uses a platmum element then any scrap metal dealer will take it and pay you the scrap value of the metal.
