True but we need help. we need a higher police presence in scertain areas to reduce the open air drug market. This would give the people in the comunity the suport they need to try and deal with the criminals takign over thier neibor hoods.

Maybe if black parents pushed more education, respect, family values you wouldn't need the US Government to dictate how to clean up this mess. And get half those kids of that ADHD medication and give them a good a$$ whopping...
Mayor Dinken (NYC) and Berry (DC) Nagin (New Orleans) were three black leaders elected in 3 Major cities and all saw an increase in crime and lawlessness during their time (and the majority black vote kept reelecting these fools to office) and they had direct management oversight of the cities, what makes you think Obama can do any better from afar...

A black President certainly isn't the answer to that situation. While a greater police presence deters crime in a community, it doesn't get rid of it. Often, it leads to other problems and tension between the police and the community if not done correctly. A greater police presence in any community is easily achieved if the community bands together and works WITH the police to address a problem.
As a matter of fact, President Clinton successfully tried the more police presence approach we he created the COPS Office to fund police officer positions at the local level. Statistically, crime rates dropped when more officers were hired and on patrol but according to Congress, which cut the COPS Office funding after Clinton's second term, it was tougher laws not more police officers that contributed to lower crime rates. Personally, I haven't seen how the death penalty or three-strikes laws have deterred any career criminals.

I whole-heartedly agree that positive, educated, informed, feared-by-their-children parents, regardless of race, are the key to solving many socio-economic problems.
It should be noted that over the last 10 years, the mayors of Honolulu, San Deigo and Salt Lake City all saw increases in crime during their tenures which was attributed to the city's high number of meth addicts. Most of the addicts arrested for crimes were white. And majority white voters in those cities couldn't get a mayor elected who could get rid of the meth problem which plagued those cities. The white Presidents of the same 10 year period haven't been able to do much from afar either.

How can you blame Mayor Nagin for what happend in new orleans. If it wasn;t for the Hurricane the crime rate would not have exploded. I think that would be a smart way to go. If you legalize all drugs that would take the proffit out selling them. Thus it would inturn reduce a majority of the drug related crimes.

The New Orleans crime rate was one of the highest in the Nation before the Hurricane, and when 120,000 of these nice people were shipped off to Houston, TX their crime rate skyrocketed...

I can't wait until we have a black President. Then maybe all the "poor me" blacks will stop with the whole "the man is keeping me down" thing... Nobody is keeping them down but themselves as it is, but a black man in the White House should put an end to a lot of that tired argument.

they were not shooting at the helicopters. they were just shooting in the air to get the helicopters attention so they could be rescued. I don;t think anyone was actually tryign to shoot down helicopters.
