Me, that's who. I was preparing to set up my new computer - backup everything from my old one, burn it to CD, copy to new 'puter. Then I get this brilliant :dur: idea. Connected the two computers via ethernet and did a direct copy - no CDs involved.

If you knew how many new systems I've set up for people where I've done the old backup/burn/copy...

Stop laughing! It's not funny!

Enjoying life!
In your defense Vrai, burning a CD to transfer is perfectly acceptable if you want to avoid moving the computers close together or running ethernet cable.

Who is stupid??

I am I am....I set up Catt's new computer, hooked up the ethernet, went thru all the instructions and couldn't get net access...Spent 2 hours xmas morning, then 90 minutes xmas night..Nothing worked, kept going thru the instructions with no success...Troubleshooting guide said if all fails, power off and on the router..and I'm like yeah, that's gonna work..So 3 and one half hours after I read that little nugget, I say what the hell, I'll try that..:dur: it worked.

Okay, here's a new dilemma. I've turned on AutoComplete (XP) but IE isn't prompting me to remember passwords. Is there something I need to do? My XP box at home does it just fine and I don't remember taking any extra steps so it would.

Actually it is a good idea to have a backup of all important files on CD (or other media of choise). See, two birds, one CD. I've done worst. I once re-imaged a PC without backing up to the server. :whack: That's the last time I haul my sick azz to work.
