:wench: I travel home down 235 everyday. Ive noticed that out of the 17 lights that I drive through on average i get stopped at 12 of them. Whats up with that? Some of the lights are only for shopping centers. Seems that if these lights are timed the way the gubbament says they are...I would think that maybe I could make it through 1/2 of them without getting stopped.

They are designed to maximize wait time for everyone.

For instance, if you're on a side road, waiting to come out onto 235, you will be forced to wait until a huge pack of cars starts approaching along 235. When they get close to the light, the light will turn red for them, and green for you.

This way, everyone gets to wait the maximum amount of time as possible.

I'd like to find the person who engineered the timing on these lights.

And then throw a hammer at their face.

This past weekend, I was trying to enter RT235 from Maple Rd. ( by Cedar Point Credit Union) & waited thru two cycles of lights to gain entrance to the beautiful realm of Rt. 235 South just to go to WaWa for a quick 'oh i forgot this.."
Took me over 20 minutes..the light took (I timed it) 14 minutes to allow me to cross. It's a shame it takes as long to go 5 miles as it does to go to Leonardtown from California.

are we, the lost folks at somd.com the only one's who care?

Nobody engineered the timing. They are not synchronized. That would take a little intelligence, effort, and ability, which were not part of the contract to install the lights. Instead we got lowest bidder half ass crap.

When all the construction and installation of new lights began (in what, '01 or '02?) we were PROMISED that those lights would be synchonized. Not the whole stretch from Hollywood to GM, but it was to be broken up into three zones, each of which should be relatively easy to drive through.

And then the whole thing turned to crap, got delayed for 2 years and we are stuck making do with system that sucks because if they didn't just finish the damn project there'd be a violent overthrow of gov't in St. Mary's.

My only gripe is that just as I am getting up to a light it changes quickly to yellow. I am at the point where I would get caught if I went through the yellow and there are cameras but since I don't speed through them I end up braking like he!!. Some of you may have seen me. :howdy:

Back in the day I thought the lights changed according to the scale and weights (from vehicles) in the ground.

Most intersections around here are equipped with "walk/don't walk" signs that are timed along with the light changes. You can pretty much judge when the light will change based on the current status of those signs. Once you start paying attention to them, you will rarely be caught off guard.

The overhead ones I can tell that if it blinks before I go under I won't make that lght. The ones with the pedestrian prompts are not as predictable. I've seen arrow and pedestrian lights change and the traffic light doesn't change to yellow for a while. I think the one at MacArthur Blvd is one of those.

If you do 54 miles an hour starting in Wildwood, you can get almost every green light.
Heading north on 235 in the morning (0600), 55mph gets me through all the lights.
Coming south in the afternoon, I have to share the road with all the goobers and you can't do a speed that works.

I agree. I just know it works on Saturdays on my way home from work.

LOL You know before I moved here my husband warned me that the light timing was ridiculous. I thought he was just being silly.

I was wrong.

The lights around here (We live in the Villas at Greenview) are friggin nuts. Considering I've driven in Louisville KY and VA Beach, that's saying quite a lot.

Can't wait to see what the first big snow event of the area does to drivers around here.

There's a lot of :jameo: :jameo: :jameo:
some folks slow to 20 under the speed limit and other folks try to drive like normal but then have to dodge aroung the slow pokes.
Makes for an interesting mix on the road

Oh great. Lots of wrecks for me to play the 'guess how that car got into that position on the side of the road or the median' game. Sweet. :killingme

All I know is that when they said "Smow" and "Sumday" together in the same sentence, I ran -not walked- to the nearest Food Lion, and I got 6 palettes of toilet paper, 16 gallons of milk, 24 loaves of bread, and 4 triple A batteries.

I can only hope that it will get us through.
