Who you gonna call?

Ghostbusters? No, they won't help.

So, a previous employer owes me my 1099. I cannot file my taxes because they have failed to get this printed. Who do I call to get this rectified? Obviously, my countless phone calls, text, and emails are not going to push them to print my 1099. According to the IRS, they had until 1/31 to get it in the mail to me. According to the previous employer, they are having server issues and have not been able to get them printed.

A 1099 is not submitted to the IRS like a W2. It is used for your information only. You are suppose to keep good records. You can file your taxes based on your records.

I know how much that I made as I saved all of my check stubs, but I thought that I had to have my 1099. If that's the case then, ####! I could have filed a month ago. :cussing:

It says right on mine. "This information is reported to the IRS".

Been there done that... You must file an official complait with IRS at which time the IRS will send him a letter giving him 30 day to comply after which they will schedule a hearing for him to explain why he has not sent it out.
total elasped time ... about 6 month.. You will probably have it by then.

Fab. I got an email a few hours after posting this stating that I would have it by the end of the week. If I do not, then I'll be filing that complaint. I'm assuming that the rest of the former employees will be doing the same.

I called the IRS a few years ago when i didn't get mine by Feb. 15. They told me that if I didn't get it by March first I should call back. The only thing IRS cares about is you getting it in by the deadline, and they have no desire to help you get it done early since it usually means a refund.

And that's exactly why I have not bothered to file a complaint yet. I called to get info about the deadline and was put on hold for over 20 minutes before I gave up and hung up.

If you're sure about the amount, just go ahead and file and keep on pressuring them and file the complaint if you dont get it as promised.

Was it over $600?

If you know the exact amount, you do not have to worry. If it comes in higher you can always file an ammended return. If it comes in lower you will get a refund.

Ok then

Your last post had indicated that you weren't sure what to do.

No, my first post did. The previous employer states that the 1099 will be ready for pickup today. I have a tax appointment on Saturday. If the 1099 is not ready by then I will be filing without it.

Sorry. I guess I misunderstood the "now I don't know what to do" statement.

Just have that person write the info on any piece of paper, have him/her sign/authenticate it with their business ID, fwd to you via email as a PDF, print it.

When they say pickup, bs, they`re supposed to mail it to the address where you had listed as residence during employment; however USPS will not forward it if (your) adresses has changed since then or any other address.

& as another poster std, yes IRS will surely receive a copy of any 1098/1099 etc, whether earnings however, Interest/Dividends/etc. It may not marryup with your filing prior, but it will eventually. Most is automated anyway. How ya think ppl get audited, some at random, some by just failing to report things.

Considering that I have an appointment on Saturday, USPS is not the way to go. I'd prefer to pick it up and not rely on the unreliable (ex-employer AND USPS). :yay:
