why can't I do it?

I have never been able to cook a roast so it falls apart. I always put it in the crockpot. I have tried cooking it all day at a low temp. I have bought every kind of roast they sell.

What do I have to do to have the roast so tender that you don't even need a knife?

You can't boil water either can you? At least not without digging out the recipe?

Hmm, that is a problem!

Start by telling us about your childhood. Your mother was incompetent in the kitchen also, wasn't she?

Throw roast in crockpot, lipton onion soup mix, one onion-chopped, a little hot water with beef boulion, turn on high and let cook all day.

Maybe if you had a God Pot from Pampered Chef!?

Seriously, a chuck roast or "pot roast" cut of beef roast should fall apart easily in the crock pot. The directions Vince gave you should be good for just about any of them. And you really don't even need that much water - it usually makes it's own juice from the steam.

good luck!! :buddies:

^^

You're probably using the wrong cut of meat. You need something nice and fatty - a chuck roast is perfect - and cook it for at least 8 hours. Also, your crockpot temp might be too low. If it's an older crockpot, you may want to try it on high instead of low (this would be in an experimental, supervised setting, of course).

I agree with Vrai about using a chuck roast, but instead of using a crock pot, use a pressure cooker at 15Lbs for about 30 minutes.

Step 1- salt and pepper the meat
Step 2- sear the meat very well in the the pressure cooker
Step 3- in with the roast put in a cup of beef broth (or red wine), a pound of carrots, and a tablespoon of tomato paste
Step 4- put the lid on the pressure cooker and wait for the jiggler to start bouncing, start timing at this point.
Step 5- after 30 minutes release the pressure, remove the meat and make the gravy.

As good or better than a crock pot, a lot less time, and the meat is going to be tender

I used my Pampered Chef God Pot yesterday to make a kick-ass pot roast.

I seared a cheap-o chuck roast on all sides (try to remove as much fat from the roast before searing), then plopped it in the bottom of the baker and added a quartered onion, two handfuls of baby carrots, four quartered potatoes, two stalks of chunked celery, and a packet of Lipton's onion soup mix with a cup of water. I placed the lid on it and set it in a 300 degree oven for 2.5 hours. Don't open the lid, or let your curiosity get the better of you....just leave it alone.

The roast turned out beautifully (and really tasty!). I also cooked some homemade popovers and a four-layer chocolate-strawberry cake with homemade fudgy frosting.

I've never known life without a crockpot and I have this really cool roasting pan that was my great grandma's and I don't know how to use it. :bawl:

You can do the same in the microwave and have a falling apart roast in about 45 mins. YUM!! I love my Godpot!

I thought that was the point of that pot.

I like to cook a chuck roast on the stovetop in a large covered skillet. Brown on both sides, top it with whole jar of horseradish and cook for 2-4 hours depending on the size of the roast. About an hour before it's done I put in quartered potatoes, carrots, and quartered onions.

I put my God Pot in the oven before I left for a kid's birthday party. Came home two and a half hours later and dinner was done. :yay:

I have three brand new still-in-the-original-package God Pots in my pantry if anyone is interested.
