Why Do Cops Bother?

Okay, today on the scanner in Calvert I heard two chases involving crotch rockets. Top speeds over 150...why do the cops even bother to chase them? They aren't going to catch them and only endanger other motorists. Anyone else have an opinion on this?

Dang shame........ :ohwell:

That's what I mean, this is not the first time I've heard this, it happens very often but they never get caught so I was just wondering why they bother. I'd love to see them get caught but it's dangerous for other drivers, especially when the are flying up Route 4.

I'm sure the cops would use the :bs: excuse that they are undermanned.....but I'd think posting officers on the major highways is more important then county patrols.

In certain counties in Florida the cops wouldnt chase you over 100 mph. car or bike alike. they would just get your license plate number and then pay you a visit later on.

i knew a guy that actually had a toggle switch setup for his taillight on this RC51 so when he ran from the cops at night they couldnt see him. he also had a trick license plate flipper thingy so that when he hit a switch the plate would flip up. he had more than a few screws loose though...

Oh, but my opinion is that if its over a certain speed the cops shouldnt even waste their time. There are other fish to fry. What speed that is I have no idea. 120 maybe?

That's what I mean, why kill the guy or an innocent bystander, just for speeding? I'm not taking up for the idiots that the cops are chasing, but if the cops don't chase them, they will probably slow down.

I don't know if the speeders would slow down, but I do feel that it would save innocent lives and free up officers to do other things.

They are already running those speeds and they will continue to run them whether they are being chased or not. I was passed by one on route 4 once that was going so fast, I could not tell whether it was blue or black, it went by so fast that I could only tell that it was a dark bike.

They aren't going 140 - 150 when the cop first spots them, maybe 70-80 then the cop starts after them and calls out the speed and it just keeps going up. I know 70- 80 is fast but it's not as bad as 140-150 with a cop after you.

I do believe that and that's why we have tags on our vehicles.

In another thread somebody was talking about the new Chargers the cops have that are capable of 150+... I do NOT want any cop in this county to EVER be driving that fast.. and thought there were rules in place that they weren't allowed, or someone had to authorize them to get into a high speed chase.. aren't they routinely called at speeds in excess of 80 - 85??

Of course we are talking about high speed chases where you are trying to capture a felon, running to catch up to a speeder they caught doing 85 they have to exceed 100 by a good amount.

My point being, if they aren't allowed to chase someone at speeds higher than 85 - 90 or 95.. and anything above 100 is considered reckless and stupid no matter who is behind the wheel.. WHY did they buy cars that can exceed 150??
