This is a very sad situation that is polarizing part of the county. The driver is devastated and it was not her fault. That particular bar gets out of control almost as much as the place on 231, with people in the road at all hours and expecting traffic to stop. I don't blame her for running out of the mob to get help. She'd be dead if she stayed. And she responsibly stopped as soon as it was safe and called the authorities.
The ones who weren't acting responsibly were those having teenage parties at bars and brawling in the roadways.

I've been staying on top of all that and it is just horrible on both accounts. She was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I think it's sad that this has happen. It seems to me that this is becoming a race issue. Why would you say that if she stopped she would have been killed? Why is that? Because it was a black bar and she was white? People need to realize that this is not a race issue. Two peoples lives has been taken. If she had went to the police or straight to a telephone, then people wouldn't think she was trying to avoid a scene of a accident. But instead, she left the county. And to say she is not at fault is totally WRONG cause she is.

(Editor's Note: This is the first reader who has pointed out the race of the driver, the police did not. Only those who knew all those involved would have known their race. This is not a matter of race but one of judgment. Those who brawled in the road used no judgment at all and anyone operating on Rt. 234 in the middle of the night in the Clements area should only expect deer to be running in front of them, not people. Intelligent people of any race agree this was caused by brawlers being in the road, not the operator of the vehicle.)

They were trying to kill her. There's foot and hand marks all over the car where they were kicking and hitting it. They broke out the back glass. Thank God she was able to get away from them.

One question I have is WHY the hell were they in the road in the first place! Clifton's has a HUGE parking lot to begin with!!! Wasn't there enough room there to take care of their petty fight, which was probably over drugs or somebody saying something to somebody else's babies mommy!!!?!?!?

Good point. There are plenty of bars with loitering problems where most of the customers are white. I try to avoid driving by the Green Door at night, because I'm concerned that I'll hit drunks standing in the road.

She was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Until it is proven that she is somehow at fault for this incident, I believe that they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. One of the first lessons you teach a child is "look both ways before crossing - don't play in the street". These weren't 3 year olds chasing a ball into the road.

The driver has my sympathies for being thrust into this situation, dealing with the trauma of this accident, and for being the scapegoat of their moronic behavior.
