"I think Condi (Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice) is going to go (to the Middle East) pretty soon," Bush said.

Blair replied: "Right, that's all that matters, it will take some time to get that together." Rice said on Sunday she was thinking of going to the region if it would help.

Blair added: "See, if she goes out she's got to succeed as it were, where as I can just go out and talk."

Bush replied: "See, the irony is what they need to do is get Syria to get Hizbollah to stop doing this #### and it's over."

So what?

I only wish he had said it into the microphone. And it's not like he hasn't said the same thing repeatedly - without the ka-ka talk.

It's like when Kerry called Republicans "snakes" or "dishonest M-Fer's" or whatever it was that he said. It's not like he had been going around kissing GOP butt before that, and this scandal blew it all.

At worst this is an amusing blooper. But it's been dominating headlines all day from what I can tell.

I think professional politicians know damn good and well that their "private" comments are being picked up by the media. I don't believe for one second that Blair didn't realize his microphone was still on.

And good for them. Like Tox said, what's the big deal?

You said it right there: the media cares. Does that mean the regular folks do? I have always thought Bush's frankness is one of his admirable qualities, even if it does lead him into an occasional amusing situation.

Now, what would be headline-worthy is if he stood on the podium and assailed the Hezbollah, et al. and then 'privately' said something like, "I hope the Israelis get their asses kicked."

It's moments like this...

...when you see Bush, in unguarded, real moments, that he's a hell of a lot smarter than he get's credit for and is an actual leader.

We get the incessant Clinton-esque pablum about 'enagement' and 'nuance' and all this ####, thank you Mr. President, about process and diplomacy and then there is W, in a brief conversation with Tony, about the real issue; Get the bad guys master to force them to cut it the hell out and then we'll talk.

that had Israel been attacked by Iraq or Iran during his presidency, he would have been ready to “grab a rifle, get in a ditch and fight and die.”

In another case of the 'mic that was still on'm President Clinton was overheard to add;

"...I mean, Israel lets their women fight and, come on now, what's hotter than being down in a mud hole with a woman who can kick yer azz and who knows time is getting short...hot damn, hoo doggie."

Ah yes. So the world is right once again.

I haven't heard anyone yet complain about what he said.

I think it's a big deal because he actually said something that everyone is thinking and said it like any other normal joe instead of reading some poilitically written tripe of a speach.
