Why is US Navy Retiring a 6-Year Old Ship?

What a mess...one poorly executed step after another. The Freedom class vessels will probably all be scrapped...the predicted costs of actually fixing that defective propulsion system had grown to astronomical levels and the ships are otherwise pretty useless with a 14 knot speed limit.

What is the issues ? was the gear box not desiged strong enough to handle the torque ?
Basically..yes. The complexities of mode transitions from diesel to GT were also an issue that caused recurring problems and failures. Initially most of those were blamed on improper operation by the crew, but eventually the fleet order had to go out to "permanently" secure all GT operations, leaving the boats stuck crawling around at 14 knots. Useless.

One of the videos had a commenter state Gear Boxes from X manufacture were just fine, but Y manufacture used on most of the boats were having the issues ...

That does not sound accurate..the main propulsion lines on the two LCS designs are quite different. The Independence class trimarans are faring much better in the propulsion area.....they've had a lot of hull corrosion issues (that they should not have had.....we've been building large fast aluminum multi-hull vessels for a lot of years now.)
