Wii system questions

I'd like to purchase the Wii system for my children, but I'm completely confused by all the pieces, parts, accessories, etc. that go with it. The last game set I bought was Atari, (for those of you old enough to remember) so I really have no clue.

For those of you that have the system...
1) Do you like/need the contoller set with the Pelican Pack including tennis raquet, golf club, etc., or do the regular controllers work better? Do you need two sets of both the regular and the Pelican pack controllers?
2) Which games do you recommend for children in the 5-9 age range?
3) Do you need a dual charging station or will a single one work fine?
4) I saw Guitar Hero and Rock Band...any preference and why?
5) Do you need two of the nunchuck controllers or just one?

Any help is very much appreciated.

If you buy the basic package, it comes with 5 games. Baseball, tennis, bowling, boxing and golf. It also comes with 1 numchuck and 1 controller.

Buy a second numchuck and controller. That's all you need and those 5 games are perfect for your kids.

Do you still have the Atari? I'd love to have one of those. That's about my speed.:lmao:

I believe you still need the controllers with the raquets and stuff. I was going to buy those but I read some bad reviews on them, so I haven't ever spent the money on it.

My kids love the monster truck game and the wii fit and mostly the one that came with it with the bowling, baseball etc.

I just bought a dual charging system at Radio Shack for $20 I would imagine you would only need 1. Once they are charged they last a long time.

You need two numchucks for the boxing and some other games.

My kids love "Carnival games" even my 3 year old nephew plays it. It has all the games from ski ball to ring toss and the dunk booth. My older kids love guitar hero and hubby is obsessed with it. I have to limit his time on it!:lmao:My personal favorite is the sports pack it comes with. I LOVE the tennis, bowling and golf. I'm already a pro at all three! :yahoo:

I should check out Carnival games I have heard good stuff about it. I hate buying new games because they cost so much and you never know if you will like them. We have Mario Party 8 and none of us really like it. I solved it in 2 days.

The regular controllers work just fine. The Pelican (terrible brand fyi) shells are just plastic bits that fit over the Wiimote and do nothing.

2) Which games do you recommend for children in the 5-9 age range?

Carnival Games, for the 5 year old. Mario Party 8, Rayman Raving Rabbids and Wii Play for the whole family. Boom Blox for the 9 year old and adults.

3) Do you need a dual charging station or will a single one work fine?

I strongly suggest a Nyko Duel Charging Station. I have one and it works wonders. Nyko is a very trusted brand for accessories on any game machine.

4) I saw Guitar Hero and Rock Band...any preference and why?

Both are nice really. If you have an LCD Hi Def TV, there will be some lag, but once you get used to it, you'll be fine. Both are nice products.

5) Do you need two of the nunchuck controllers or just one?

The system comes with one. I highly suggest buying Wii Play (mini game collection very simillar to Wii Sports) which comes with a Wiimote. Buy 1 extra nunchuck and you'll be set.

Games usually have a setting to address that issue. I know Rock Band does, but I'm not sure if Guitar Hero has the similar settings.

hmmm I don't know .... I have GH for my Wii but have a 36" CRT so I never looked into it.

My cousin has RB on her LCD and it has a weird lag where GH doesn't (she has GH too).

Ah well. hehe

I've placed a bid on EBay for $285 for the Wii Console with 1 nunchuck and 1 remote and the 5 games.

Does that sound like a good price? What would be the max anyone would pay for this system? Obviously, I'm not a Wii afficionado but have heard a lot about the system.

I'd pay $250.00 hehe

just call around retail places and see if they have any in stock. the LaPlata walmart has had 1-3 in everytime I've been there the last few months.

and just so you know, the 5 games they're talking about is really just 1 game with 5 mini games in it (Wii Sports).

That's what I thought - I've seen them retailed anywhere from $249.99 and upwards of $450.00. I don't know what the difference is. I'm thinking I just want to purchase the basic system, see if I like it, and then upgrade from there.
