I wasn't sure where you were going with this Marie but, after listening, I agree. I really liked to listen to Joel but he has bought into the "word of faith" teachings. Name it and claim it theology. I listened to him when he first came on tv but I stopped shortly after that. I won't say he isn't saved, but the mark of a balanced Christian is balanced teachings. Joel is very one sided. Feel good theology as I call it. It is a serious flaw in their misleading teachings because so many people follow for the promised riches, but it won't go unpunished as the commentator quotes in Jeremiah 23.
I think he was out of line harping on Joel not having a degree. 1 John 2 v 26, 27 speaks about this. I don't have a degree either but God has taught me countless things through the Bible and other good teachers.
You won't hear it in all of his sermons my friend and, yes, they are encouraging. It's not the idea of trying to reach people by preaching hell, fire & damnation, it's the lie of promising physical riches that God never promised. Many are severely disappointed when they hear that God wants everyone to be rich & prosperous and then they don't receive the riches. Then, they're told it's because they don't have enough faith which damages them even more. I listened to him for about a year and heard his TV interviews with Larry King and others and he definitely buys into the prosperity gospel. Copeland, Price, Dollar, etc. do too.I watch Joel Osteen every Sunday and find his messages very encouraging in a very negative world. You do not need hell and damnation to reach people. He bases on alot of Faith in God but I never hear the name it claim it at all.
