Willows Rec Center Closing

TPD

the poor dad
No mention why it may be closing but wondering if it has anything to do With a new YMCA coming to town...

If only they had an underground go kart track.

How long has it been open?
Never heard of this place.
I drive by it every day, as I live just off Willows Road.
Have had zero interest in using the facility.

I wonder if this presages how long the YMCA will last.

For your consideration ...

The owners lost their shirt on that venture, I'm guessing. It was a pretty expensive business gamble....

Betcha it had something to so with the manufactured COVID crisis BS. Since they opened in 2019, just at the cusp of the plandemic, pretty sure they bore the brunt of the forced business closings by edict and bled out a whole lot of operating capital.

Always seemed to be busy every time I drove by. A friend of mine who was friends with the owners and used to go to the bar frequently and told me the event room was pretty much always in use and the sporting events were well attended.

Not sure how they could have been losing money, maybe the rent went up?

Rent?...I thought it was owned by the business entity that had it built.

I've seen more than a few examples of businesses failing even while they appeared to be busy. The hotel and restaurant right here on the island is a good example..the revenue generated didn't come remotely close to meeting the loan obligations taken out to build it all.

I assumed they rented because the building is part of a larger industrial park.

Why doesn't the YMCA just BUY THE BUILDING? Same basic area.

I'm still pissed that our tax dollars will go to a facility that we will still have to pay to use, and the proceeds don't go to the county.

They invested a lot of time, energy and money to build that.

Turns out, you're wrong.

Nothing on that page says they own the land or the building, only that they oversaw the construction. Just like the grocery stores and fast food restaurants around here that spec buildings to be built, but don't own them.

More importantly, Maryland SDAT says that every single building in that complex is owned by the WIllows Run LLP.

So unless Ms. Post and Mr. Malhotra also own the Caci Building, the Booze Allen Hamilton building, Resource Management Corp building, and the three large warehouses as well, then they don't own the land or the building. And if they do own all of those other properties, then they aren't in financial trouble (as least not from the WRC alone).

I was just going by this:

In the fall of 2017, the building site off Willows Rd, Lexington Park, MD was determined to be a great site for an indoor recreation center. Sunny Malhotra joined the project in early 2018. We visited numerous indoor recreation facilities around the country and interviewed owners to determine best practices and incorporate those features into WRC.

We began overseeing the construction of the 26,000 sq ft building off Willows Rd and brought Willows Recreation Center with Sidelines Bar & Grill to life.

Yup. That lot with building has a valuation of over $5 Million. Doubtful that those that run the gym bought and paid for all that. Most likely a rent issue, along with all other business costs increasing as well.

Somebody decided to shell out the money to build that very purpose-designed facility. Not your typical commercial rental space....

Then again..banks lent the 8 million or so to build the restaurant and hotel here on SGI and the business revenue couldn't support even one 4th of the debt service. It happens...
