How do I get rid of it?

RoseRed, read this article past the sales crap at the top and it explains how to do it, some is pretty detailed. How long have you had it?? If you have only had a week or so some say bring the computer up in safe mode and try going back to a restore point before you noticed. Then run full antivirus and malware scans. Some people were not so lucky and it gets much more involved to remove. Good Luck. It is truly a blackmail type virus malware.

Thank you! It showed up yesterday, so I shut the laptop down and used daughters instead. I did a system restore this morning and it seems to have cleared up the problem. Appreciate the assistance. :yay:

The two i use are Lava Soft Ad - Aware free version and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. I have also used Spybot Search and Destroy.

Any direct links? When doing a search, there are a bunch of them. Don't want to select a bad one.

When I checked my home computer this AM, the Windows 7 security popped up for me too. Thankfully, there were enough subtle signs that I noticed-typos, tab button not working, etc-before I got fully sucked in. However, I want it removed as well but I am not very tech savvy.

I am fairly sure that I have anti-virus on my computer. About 1-2 months ago, I got a virus that made it seem as though I had no C or D drive. I gave my computer to a techy friend, he fixed the problem, and I doubt he would have given it back to me unprotected. However, I don't know what my anti-virus is.

So, now we get to the root of my post. How do I start my computer in safe mode and run a restore? Since I am not 100% on if I have anti-virus or not, what is a good brand to get? I don't want to download anything until I can run a scan to determine if I really do have a problem or not. Or is that just me being paranoid?

Sorry if the above questions are stupid but I have a lot of information on my computer that I haven't backed up yet and I really don't want to lose it.

Thanks!

I ended up backing up all my data and a friend did a total system restore to get rid of it.
