Win 7 Patch for Large Disks

One or more volumes are corrupted on a hard disk when a dump file is saved on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 if the hard disk space is larger than 2 terabytes

One or more volumes are corrupted on a hard disk when a dump file is saved on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 if the hard disk space is larger than 2 terabytes.

This issue also occurs when the operating system enters into hibernation and generates a Hiberfile.sys file that is at a disk offset greater than the 2 terabyte disk offset of the hard disk drive.

If the corrupted volumes include the system partition, you cannot start the computer.

OK

I work in IT but HUH .......

More importantly than the server issue is the hibernation issue. Win 7 goes into hibernation mode on laptops going into battery depletion, regardless of the hibernation setting in the power panel. If you have a drive 2 TB or larger, it could corrupt by simply running out of battery.

ok so having a hard drive larger than 2 Tb connected to a "PC" that goes to sleep will suffer corruption or only the HD that gets the Hibernation" file written to it ... has to be over 2 tb

should not really be an issue for most people yet ?

my 2tb external drive formats out to 1.8 ...

I know I saw an advertisement recently for a 3tb drive :dingding: about time ...

This is why they only went up to 2TB before now. They had all sorts of issues after 2TB. Since they are fixing the issues we should be more 3TB drives coming out!
This would be nice and cut down on the ammount of drives I got lol.
I might have 3-4TBs of drives sitting around! And no its not porn, its movie backups mainly and lots of music.

Same here. I have a collection of everything from 250GB to 2 TB. Time to start consolidating. I've also noticed that the newer 2 and 3 TB drives are USB 3.0. Significantly decreases the transfer time between drives, 5.0 GB/s theoretical in burst mode, 3.2 GB/s nominal, vs 480MB/s (theoretical) for USB 2.0, 120MB/s nominal.
