First off let me say that I love the touchscreen! :yahoo:

Now that I've made everything look like Win7, I'm more interested in the new Start menu and may like it after all. I fear change.

No, it's just that most new laptops come with a touchscreen.

What's weird is that it was hard to find one with a CD/DVD drive. The sales guy said they don't come standard so much anymore because everyone has their crap in the cloud, which I despise and think is one of the dumber ideas in computer history.

It's really because of two reasons:
1) You can't make the laptop thinner if you have an optical drive and most people want a thinner/lighter laptop.
2) People typically only use a CD/DVD drive for installing software (not a frequent thing) or illegally copying DVDs (usually done at home before you take the laptop elsewhere). For those purposes, an external drive works just fine.

No. A screen is either touch screen or it is not, you can't make it a touch screen by flipping a switch or setting an option.

Typically, laptops don't come touch screen, and if yours is, you'd probably know it.

All tablets are touch screen.

They now have laptops with touch screens. Pretty cool

I don't mind it. It's pretty good so that all your crap is synchronized across all your gadgets, but I wouldn't trust it so much to back up proprietary info there, or store my credit card/identity information.

I know - I meant they don't usually come with touch screen on it... on the other hand, I guess over the past year or two that "usually" has become less usual.

Needing a new PC, not a laptop though. This one keeps crashing. Will keep for trips. I hate setting them up though.

I used my DVD player on my laptop yesterday to watch the video that was produced to watch my stepfathers burial at sea.

I also use it for burning pictures to DVD so I have a back up of them.

What then?

Almost every one I looked at yesterday was touch.

But it was just a couple weeks ago that I was whining because I've gotten spoiled by a touchscreen and wished my laptop had one. So yay!

I use mine mostly to backup software that I download and make music CDs so I can listen to them in my car.

You can get an external drive for ~$30. Hook it up for the rare times when you need it.

Microsoft is offering to buy IPads for $200 if you buy their Surface btw. I think it would be a good way to "sell" a first gen IPad, if they take those.
