It means your machine was given the same IP address as another one on your network, call your IT guy or gal....

Thats the sad and unfortunate thing, we don't have an IT guy or gal, yes this company sucks! Is there any way I can fix it myself?

I bowl overhand
Go to Start RUn.. type in "ipconfig /release" [enter] "ipconfig /renew" [enter]

If you don't have static IP's this might fix the problem

I agree, but I would open a command prompt first, I think if you run the command from run, you cannot see the results.....

Start -------> Run -----------> CMD --------> type in "ipconfig /release" [enter] "ipconfig /renew" [enter]

Is this on a Home 'Puter or at Work?

If its at a Work 'Puter do you have Admin rights to change your Network Settings? if not, then you need to talk to whomever does

You probably have a static (assigned) IP address. There's another machine on your local network with the same IP address. If you've added a new bit of Hardware lately (likely a PC, but it could be a printer), then that's the likely culprit. You have to either change the IP on you machine or the other one, static IPs are first come first serve.

For PCs, it depends on the OS. You can change the static IP by right clicking Network Neighborhood and picking Properties, select the TCP/IP protocol and change your address. (To what, you ask? I dunno, you should have some local system of tracking IPs. Can't help you). If its a printer, then you need to go through the network settings under the menu and change the IP.

The other option is that your internal network is now open to the world and are now trying to use a live IP instead of a subnet.

space between ipconfig and /release??
That should work, I would be surprised if the sys admin set up a static IP, but then again I use a NMCI machine at work so nothing surprises me anymore.

Yeah we don't have an IT person, so one of the boss's trys to do the computer stuff and he's an idiot, the problem is they don't want to fork over the money for an IT person, cheap bastards.
