Windshield Wiper problem.

Turn on windshield wipers to the first dwell.
Wipers work well for a few wipes, then it will start wiping at the constant slow wipe mode, no more dwell control.
I can turn on the fast wipe mode, switch back to any other setting and the wipers go back to the constant, normal mode.

Now here is the kicker.

I turn the wipers OFF, but the wipers will not turn OFF.
The only way to stop them is to turn off the vehicle.

Let the truck sit for 5 minutes, start the truck and the wipers will stow.

Was told it could be a faulty wiper motor.

Any troubleshooting ideas?

Sounds more like the switch to me. If it were the motor, it should turn off when you tell it do so.

That's what I was thinking too.
I called the dealership and asked if there was a TSB on it, he said no.
But he said he has seen this problem before, but not on the Silverados, and it was a faulty motor.

Ok...in that circuit system you not only have a switch and a motor you have relays that control your delay...or dwell as you like to call it. With the relay's in the system you switch doesn't tell you motor to stop or go...the switch passes DC current to the relays and they control your motor. You might want to look at replacing or at least testing your windshield wiper relay control!!!

Thanks.
I think I'll just take it to the dealership, someday.

In My Opinion
I had the same problem in my Lincoln, I think it had something to do with water getting into the motor or something, it only happened when it was raining.

Did some net surfing. Sounds like a common problem. Lots of the fixes point to a circuit within the wiper module. Loose solder joints seem to be the culprit. I have found more fixes for my vehicles on the net simply by searching on the net with the problem. "2003 Silverado wiper problem" Good luck with it.

My bet is that your wiper switch has dirt inside. You can take it apart (with instructions from the manual) or replace the wiper switch assembly. Shouldn't cost much from one of the junkyards.
