Does anyone have a stockpile of wine corks that they aren't planning on using?
I'd like to start crafting a few things (thanks Pinterest! ) and unfortunately it'd take me a really long time to drink that much wine, though I'd give it hell.
A lot of wineries are going to synthetic corks, so unfortunately I don't have a huge stockpile of real corks.

I thought this was the cutest thing I've seen lately for using corks (scroll down the page):

We were told while touring Bully Hills Vineyards in upstate NY (about 8 years ago) that the cork trees were diseased and cork would no longer be available. I am surprized how many wineries are still using real corks.
The truth is, there is not a cork shortage. It is a matter of costs. The reason we see more aluminum twist off caps and plastic cork is simply because of cheaper costs. Since cork requires a lot of age and time, it is expensive to produce cork and results in a higher price point. However, plenty of cork has been harvested and trees are plentiful. The problem comes down to these new materials being chosen over cork, which has been a hard hit to the the cork industry.

Those are cute! I should pass that along to sistard. She usually makes cork boards and those things you put hot dishes on (I can't remember the actual name).
Trivet.
How many corks do you need and do you care what they say?

Right up her alley! And I'm sure her daughter would love to help.
I have a couple of cork trivets a friend made for me years ago and LOVE them.
I still don't have an actual corkboard from her. :-/
Not surprising. If I knew how to make them, you'd get the first one.
They are quite simple and I have a glue gun.
So do I! Dueling glue guns.
I see an upcoming cork off!
I thought we just had that on Thanksgiving.
