Wireless AC - your thoughts?

After recently building a large network attached storage drive I've become interested in Wireless AC. With the promise of gigabit speed wireless connections (on the 5ghz band) it sounds promising for streaming HD content stored on my network drive.

Has anyone here used it? (I think I saw at least one user that has...)
Do you have to buy "proprietary" cards etc? I.E. if I buy a Netgear wireless AC router, do I have to buy Netgear Wireless AC cards? Can you buy wireless AC ethernet bridges? It is still in "draft" status and so there might be a variety of manufacturer specific protocols...

How is the range on the 5ghz band? Do you find a significant drop off in signal strength when passing the signal through physical obstructions? How is one wall? Two walls? Wireless AC is supposed to take advantage of some kind of massive multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) boost. Like 18 antennae in each router etc.

I don't consider myself an early adopter, but this does seem like it could be really cool!

What I saw at CES was coils in a counter that sent power to compatible coils on a device very close to it. Demoed for use with kitchen appliances with further use to charge electric cars by parking over a coil in driveway.
