Wireless help...

I have a netgear wireless transmitter for years and it's worked fine. I started using a direct connection (because it was there) and now when I use the wireless, it seems to bottleneck after a little while. Sites & pages take forever to load and I usually have to close and reopen the browser. I can open a new site but after a few links, if slows down again.

Any ideas? TIA

This happens to me too. I have to unplug the power on my modem (Motorolla) for a few minutes to refresh the signal. I have no idea if this is the right thing to do, but it seems to work for me.

Try removing everything, then re-installing. While the wireless device is still installed, go to the Hardware Manager and de-install the device. Then goto Add/Remove programs and remove the associated software. Then re-boot, and re-install as per the device instructions.

What device are you referring to? Where do I reinstall from? I don't have CD's or anything and the netgear transmitter sits across the room on a table.

Not the Netgear, the wireless device in your PC. You should have a driver disk for it, or get the driver from the vendor.

If the wireless device is built-in, after you deinstall and reboot, the system will find the device and ask to reload the software. If you have the driver disk, you insert it then, or download the driver before hand.

Well I had the same problem with my old laptop so I'm thinking it's not the device. Agree?

You don't have to repeat yourself..... :jameo:

Ok, didn't know about the other laptop. Not the laptop. Do you live nearby other houses? Someone "could" be tapping into your wireless signal and sucking up your bandwidth. Do you have a wireless phone (not cell) ? They use the same frequency (2.4Ghz) and could be interfering with each other.

Just guesses...

My GF had the same issue and worse at her apartment; She was using the wireless from her parents Netgear router down the hill from her. The connection would be okay, then get really slow. Reboot the router and it would be good for a few days and then repeat. It slowly became worse....the connection would just drop. Reboot the router and it would come back and be fine...but last for maybe half an hour before it needed rebooting again. I replaced it with a Belkin router, never had the issue again...and the connection was faster than it had ever been.

Ive never had good experiences with Netgear products.
