Wireless printer problem

So I installed a wireless router a couple years ago and have my laptop set up. I bought a wireless printer and used my XP laptop and set it up and presto whamo it worked first try.

I bought Boy a desk top with a wireless card and VISTA it was a PITA. I figured it was just the VISTA learning curve. So now every time I try to do anything with his computer it is a PITA. I loaded World of Warcraft for him and it never worked right but he doesn't care anymore so it is fine. Half the time it wont connect to the wireless network anyway without closing and reconnecting.

So now he wants his VISTA desk top to be able to print to the printer. The printer booklet says works with VISTA. AGAIN it is a giant PITA. Loaded the CD rom, followed the prompts, no worky. I can't even tell WTF it is trying to do, I cannot find the printer in the printer list, I followed the troubleshooting guide and connected the printer to the VISTA machine with a USB and it say printer cannot connect to network but as soon as I yank out the cable in frustration it connects just fine.

How the hell do I get this PITA VISTA machine to print to a GD wireless printer?

Is there a way to make Microsoft to give me a free downgrade to XP?

Did you whack it a couple times?

I figured it out :yay: Works 4.0 Maybe I don't hate Vista afterall.

While I was goofing around I learned some cool stuff and I fixed the damn problem I have had for a couple years where my wireless phone knocks out my internet connection sometimes.

I restarted the computer and then went to add printer. It had configured the printer for a usb port. I selected it and clicked configure. I had to set the IP address, clicked apply and it worked.

Sorry, guess I didn't add it quick enough. They are having the problem with the internet getting knocked out everytime the phone rings. They have DSL. Just wondered if you had the same thing and what was causing your problem. TIA! :howdy:

This is why I don't have a computer and will never even use one. Too complicated!

I've tried the internet thing once but I just don't understand what it does.

I have DSL but it was the wireless phone being on or near the same frequency as my router. I went in and changed my router from auto to channel 10.

Both work in the 2.4 Ghz freq, and this is a common problem. Changing the channel can help (as you discovered) but there are still times there the two devices will clobber each other. Best thing to do is get a new phone in the 5.8 Ghz range and eliminate the problem.

First you need to get WoW off that computer....it has a glitch and it makes the pooter run slow and then lock up

Second....have boy call the customer service number on the printer and have them walk him thru the set up/connection(I say boy 'cause I know you are a man and don't make such phone calls)

WoW is already off it. I uninstalled it last night but he hasn't played it in months.

I continued to try things and read the online manuals. I finally stumbled on the problem and fixed it. I like some of VISTA's features but it seems harder to use and not intuitive. It will just be a learning curve.

19 yr old use to play it a couple of years back and about the 3rd or 4th time his computer locked up is when he quit playing it

There is an old friend(who is a "computer guru") of mine that his son plays and has the same problem and he can't figure out what the deal is
