With all this talk about child support and what not...

This is the most radical thing i have ever and probably will ever post, its just an idea, of course there would need to be a lot of work and elaborating on it...


but does anyone else feel that if a person is on welfare and has a kid (they cant provide for their kid) and they do [have a kid while they already have one and are on welfare] it a second time or what ever they should be steralized? If they cant afford to pat for their kids and cant be trusted to use the free condoms from the health department the state should step in and ensure they are protected... A man could get his sh-t snipped if he is on welfare and knocking up people and not paying or what ever as well.... Im not positive on this, but a woman can get her tubes untied and iyou can harvest the goods from a man somehow if they decide they want to have kids later on...

I know this would never get passed, but i feel it would take care of a lot of issues....

The last honest attempt at a program like this had an enormous backlash, but not from the people you'd expect. It became a racial issue, which scared away all of the politicians supporting the plan.

like on kid #2... kid #1 can be an accident, what ever, kid #2 though... if you cant provide for yourself, should you impose the same fate on a little one?

No, but who's to say they aren't working their way out of welfare? What happens if one day they make it? Is the state going to pay for reversals? What if one / or both of their kids die and all they want is a child? There are some things you can't change. To bad so sad for the kids; but ce la vie. Poor people have been having kids since forever - limiting whether you can have a family or not just because of your income is ignorant. :shrug:

I agree. It is a personal responsibility issue. The last thing I want is some politician making ethics decisions. There are cases where sterilization seems justified, but who would make that call? An underpaid, overworked social worker?

There was a proposal a few years ago to deny women continued welfare unless they went on Norplant or Depo. It was effectively killed on racial grounds because this was the government trying to keep black people from reproducing.

Not sterilized, but forced birth control and no money for subsequent children. If you take MY money, then you have to live with MY restrictions, just like any other dependent.

A couple of years back there was a "pilot" program in VA(not sure if it's still going or not) that was part of the "welfare to work" program....you were only allowed to be on welfare for 3-6 months after a child was born....after that you were either supposed to be in school or working....if you weren't(or pregnant again) they would cut the benefits down to just paying for the child
