'Woke Jesus' Is Not Jesus at All

One of the things that bugs me the most as a Christian is when people try to politicize Jesus. Sure, there are certain ways in which Christianity and politics can intertwine, and I truly believe that my Christian faith informs my political beliefs. But when people try to overlay Jesus onto a political agenda — or vice versa — there’s a problem.

The thing is, we see it on both sides of the political aisle. Let’s face it, during the 2016 election cycle, there was a weird fusion of Jesus and Trumpism that was awfully difficult for a lot of us Christians to square.

On the left, the phenomenon of politicizing Jesus comes in the form of woke Christianity. One of the most recent examples of this is a commercial that began airing around Christmas that tried to equate Jesus with illegal immigrants:

I think this arises from the idea that Jesus was some charismatic leader who spoke truth to power and wanted to change the world into a peacable kingdom on Earth. Hence, his teachings become not a call to return to God but a political rallying call to social justice.

Jesus wasn't here to effect political change - he kind of made THAT point abundantly clear, repeatedly. He told his disciples that with a word, he could call on legions of angels to do his bidding. He came for one thing and one thing only, as he said himself - "to give his life as a ransom for many". His mission was never to change the Earth - but to save mankind.

Ignored by politicians
I'd say ignored by a lot more than that - ignored often by social warrior Christians, who openly declare that Jesus will return when we've fixed the whole thing. They're not unlike the jihadists who believe the world will be a paradise once it is ruled by their religion.
